In the weeks since Destiny 2’s latest dungeon, Vesper’s Host, released, players have been convinced that some perk combinations on legendary weapons are far rarer than others, if not impossible to get Come from Soccer 13 pools and matches . Bungie recently acknowledged that there is indeed a bug affecting legendary weapon perk RNG and has now shared more details on the bug, as well as a timeline for fixes and compensation.
The whole perk RNG saga has been dubbed “WeightGate” by the community, after players accused Bungie of having a secret perk weighting system in Destiny 2’s backend. The issue came to the forefront after Vesper’s Host released, when players noticed that it was almost impossible to get the new VS Chill Inhibitor grenade launcher with its most sought-after perk combination–Envious Arsenal and Bait and Switch.
While a single person’s inability to get Chill Inhibitor’s god roll might be put down to RNG and bad luck, some players suspected this was happening on a larger scale. Developer Newo, who created third-party analytics tool RaidHub for Destiny 2, created a new tool that could track perk rolls at scale, and managed to uncover a distinct pattern.
The data shows that each weapon has a dead zone where certain perk combinations are far less likely to drop–in fact out of thousands of drops tracked, only seven people have managed to get the Chill Inhibitor with its ideal combination of perks.
Bungie has now acknowledged this issue and identified the bug that was causing it, and are at work on a fix. “While we inspected our content and confirmed each perk is weighted equally, an issue in perk pool RNG is the culprit here,” an update on the Destiny 2 X account read.
The most recent update from Bungie has revealed that a hotfix is planned for November 5 that will remove the issue. “As this fix will touch code for a game-wide system, we’re giving the team a bit more time to fully validate the changes needed to address this issue,” the update reads.
Bungie is also looking at rewards for players who not only have been impacted by this bug–potentially for years without realizing–but have come together as a community to identify and solve a mystery. “We’re looking at a few options not only to thank many of you for your data-crunching, but to get some weapons in your hands that had perk rolls with lower RNG chances than intended,” Bungie said.
For now, players can use a code provided in Bungie’s post to redeem the Conquerors of Infinity emblem. The code “VHT-6A7-3MM” can be used on Bungie’s website to snag the emblem. Meanwhile, more tech-minded fans can look forward to the promised deep-dive into what caused the puzzling bug, and how Bungie’s team have tackled fixing it.
